Oh my goodness - you are putting me to shame. I am still working on my first quilts and I would never think of hand-quilting. You are very talented. Red would be really pretty for a binding. I would love to see a picture of the finished product.
The truth is, hand quilting was much easier and less scary to me. I tried machine quilting, did a straight line the full length of the quilt. Well, straight-ish.
Then I did another the full width of the quilt. I HATED how it looked! It was terrible. (I didn't have a walking foot then, so I'm sure that colored my experience.) So I thought I'd try hand-quilting it, slightly intimidated... but it turned out that I really loved it. As long as you're not in a hurry, it's really pleasurable to just take your time and quilt a little bit each evening while you watch TV.
