That's my childhood home area, and my mind says "home" when we reach a spot in the road when you can see the bones of the earth break ground on the surface along the road and the tamarack and black spruce in the swamp. But Asheville is beautiful, too--coming up I26 or I40 and seeing the Blue Ridge makes me breathe a sigh of relief. And the North Shore of Lake Superior is spectacular. And the Pacific Northwest. And the coastline of Maine. And the Gulf shore of Florida at sunset. And New England in the fall. There are many beautiful places, but for many of us, I think that a certain kind of geography calls to us as home. Not always where we were raised. To me, the required element is water. If I can't see water, there's something missing. Nothing beats falling to sleep to the sound of waves breaking on the shore, or the creek running.
