When I have a concern about some new pattern and don't want to mess up or don't think I have enough fabric, I make a test block out of some other fabric that I don't care that much about. Sometimes, based on the test block I changed what fabric goes where because I realize that it would look better this other way. Bottom line: don't let your brain talked you into/out of something.
