Question Digital photo art landscapes

I have been working on making landscapes for a while and finally have gotten time to try some new areas. I had seen some outstanding pieces by Barbara Barrick McKie where she used her photos to make the material and then thread painted the piece. She also used several others techniques. I am currently using a photo I shot while we were on vacation in the Smokey Mountain in N.C. last summer. I am working with the cut and applique method plus thread painting. Barbara mentioned in one of the notes from her gallery website that she used a sateen cotton to inkjet the photo shop design on and then heat set the piece. Has anyone else worked with this method. I have seen several other designers use pieces of this idea and the results are outstanding. I certainly know why these designers have won so many awards. There were several at the Houston show this year from what I have seen. www.mckieart.com I would really like your thoughts and experiences. Thanks! Joy
