My wife and I turned our living and dining rooms into our sewing room back in 2009, since we were spending more time in the small sewing room (spare bedroom) anyway, including our guests that had to see what the latest project was. We have our 401A, 301A, 14SH654 serger, and the White W3300 Embroidery machine set up in a large 3-sided sewing area, with the 404, 221, and Genie 353B in portable cases and the JC Penney 7057 FA setting underneath ready to go when needed. A retired (wife’s first, now on standby) 14U344B serger and nine other assorted heads are stored down under there too. In our parlor area (living room), one of my 29K70 boot patcher treadles, a W&G Type 11 in a Parlor cabinet, my Grandmother’s old White VS3 treadle, and a W&G Automatic treadle are lined up along the wall, with my 28K2 hand crank and 221 hand crank setting on top of them. A Singer 20 and a Singer 24 are on small shelves up on the wall. A Davis NVF head is hiding on the floor between cabinets, and a Wards UHT-J266B (copy of my wife’s very first sewing machine) is trying to blend in with the kid’s photos and seasonal decorations on the bookcase built into the adjacent wall. A White Embossed Rotary is inside of the Martha Washington cabinet that is serving time as a coffee table. My Singer 319W hides in its model 56 cabinet and stool in the guest bathroom with my 66-1 hand crank in a portable case setting underneath ready to go, a pair of centennial heads (201-2 and a 15-91) are stashed on shelves in the main bedroom, and two cabinets containing a green Singer 185J and a bright blue Sears 158.443 serve as a desk for the computer that I am using. My newest acquisition, a 201K hand crank and portable case with extension are temporarily residing in the hallway next to some shelving, and Grandma’s 301A and cabinet are waiting in her bedroom for her to finish moving in with us later this month. The National Model J and portable case is hanging out in the bike shop (utility room), and the card table for the 404, 401A, and 301A is in another spare bedroom.

I think that makes 38 here inside the house, and I have 5 more of my collection at the shop, including another 29K70 treadle that I use there. Oh, and wait a minute, there’s an auction coming up this weekend that I hope to be at that lists a treadle and a portable.....

Thayerrags, it seems we all have way too many machines! I am sitting at 36 after giving a couple away, but not that many in the house. I am transforming a storage cargo unit to a sewing machine show house! I only keep the ones in the house that are very ornate, or I use! What does Grandma think about living with so many machines?
