The new lytro cameras look interesting- most expensive one is $499 and ifyou take a photo that is not in focus, you can make it sharp later on.

I have an Olympus sz-30 that is really good and is about the same price. A friend is buying the Nikon 1 which is about $1000.00 here and is a good one as well.
