I made one a couple of years ago. I got the paperpiecing pattern from one of the websites on paperpiecing. I enlarged the circles and divided
the segments in half (1.5x2.5 wedges). Then I backed the quarter circles with a light fabric before I pieced them and appliqued them to the
background. I posted a picture of it but in the wrong place (first time posting a picture) so you probably won't be able to find it. I was pleased with the results although it was probably as time consuming as the traditional one.
