I glue it too. This way I know it is as straight as I can get it (mine is never perfectly straight for some reason ) and then I don't have to keep checking and folding. Before that I used hair clips and that was OK for me too, but I really like gluing now, I take my time gluing and pressing the binding straight and then stitching it down is a breeze.
