I also ladder stitch my bindings. At first I used pins, too much finger poking. Then I went to the snap type hair clips, worked just fine. I took a quilt with me to a weekend away and forgot the clips. Found out that with the ladder stitch you don't really need to pin, clip, or glue. Binding turned out just as nice as when I used the pins and clips, and eliminated the extra effort (and finger pokes from the pins).
