The first quilts I made starting back in 1975 were of double knit. I made a sunbonnet sue for my oldest daughter who was 2 at the time and while working at Cameron University in the ROTC Dept I blew up a picture of the US on a chalk board and traced it on butcher paper. Made each state out of different knits I had made myself, my daughter, my sister and her daughters clothes from and hand appliqued them in center of king size quilt. The Map of US came out apx 4 feet across and 2 1/2 feet tall in center of cream colored polyester knit. I also made a twin size for my husband to take to fire station for his bed. He slept next to north wall and was using 3-4 blankets at time and still cold. After he got his knit quilt he took all other blankets off and said he was warm and toasty. One thing I liked about them was they were heavy enough did not need batting in middle, just knit top and bottom. Thanks for the pics. Brought back many memories. I am new to site and love reading every one's comments. Lived in OKla back then but now in NOrth central Arkansas. Been here going on 25 years now. Hi to everyone out there in quilt world.
