Look for 'binding with a machine' and you might find helpful sites. I am in the middle of binding a set of placemats, and used the Missouri Star Quilting tutorial, and it's working great. To miter, I just fold it as I get to the corner. The sites suggest sewing it to the back first then flipping to the front to sew down, but I'm doing it the same way I do a quilt (sewing to the front first), just because I like the results better.
