I trim the quilt before sewing the binding.
Then I will clip just a fraction on the corner after applying the binding. Just the tip and not too deep an angle. This takes a bit of the bulk out.
If there appears to be excess batting in the corner, then fold the top back and shave a bit of the batting
If you trim too much of the corner, then there is a chance you might cut into the folded batting..
