Jan, these are really small blocks, and I think it would be hard to piece the 1", 1.25", 1.5" small pieces together without the stabilization of some type of backing. I found I used some washable school glue across the middle of the paper to hold the first piece in place. The fabric was kind of squirmy because the pieces are so small. I found 2" strips were just too big to look good on this size blocks (just my opinion). I used the scribble pad paper from the $ Store, and just cut the paper to size with a rotary cutter I keep for paper.
