Bennett, How full is the bobbin? My 301 doesn't like to FMQ with a really full bobbin. The thread slips out of the slot. It doesn't matter when doing regular stitching.
I don't think I've overloaded them, and it does seem to happen whether the bobbin is just filled or half empty.

Sometimes it seemed like I could lift and put down the presser foot again, and it would go back to being a good tension. Or I could reach in and press the bobbin case in a bit and it would work for a while. Of course, this could just be about the same as holding my mouth just right!

I was also going to try out my Singer 15 bobbin case in it (if compatible, haven't looked yet) and see if that makes a difference.
