I am thinking of doing the same thing in a spare bedroom. My idea is to make a straight valance (no gathering on the rod) measuring the window and finding a block to use evenly will be the biggest hurdle. I am going to use flannel as my batting. I have 2 more weeks left of work then Christmas so mine wont get done until Jamuary at least !!
