Friends suggested I "quilt" borders around a piece of embroidered work I have finally finished (it is the Irish Blessing). The piece is 18x16; the borders add an addition 4" on each side. I do not want to quilt inside the embroidered work. Do I simply put a backing on, no batting and then do some stitching on the borders? Bat only the borders? If I put batting on the whole piece, how to secure the embroidered part? Would appreciate some input!
