I tried the Walmart dishtowels...they are ok...but with having to iron them before I could embroider on them, it was less costly to buy 100% cotton bleached muslin and cut my own. I bought the 90" wide and get 3 per width of fabric...I cut them 30" square.

I will say the walmart towels...very absorbent once washed. So are the ones made from the 100% muslin. The muslin wash and dry beautifully.
I tried embroidering before washing and after, using the same stabilizer, thread & design...made little difference in using redwork type designs.
