I'm laughing with you, not at you. I've been using the "soap trick" for a while now. I use Dove soap, mainly because it's softer and easier to stick pins into, and because it has a concave shape, so it sits nicer and has a nicer top to stick pins in to. It works as a lubricant. I just stick mine into a sock that had no pair, and tied it up with a pretty ribbon to keep it snug. The end of the sock is great for carrying the pins around. It has a nice fragrance as well. The sock wipes off any extra soap before the pin exits the sock.

I thought of it one day when I was using Mountain Spring to lubricate the drawer sliders on my dressers. It both keeps the drawers sliding nicely, and keeps the dresser drawers smelling lovely. And then Pop! Light bulb goes on, and I think about my sticky pins. The rest is history.

There's nothing like a quilter to think of all kinds of crazy and useful items!

Hope this works out for you. Cheers!
