i would use a multi-colored bright variegated thread and a 'straight line stipple'.... zip over for a foot, take a quick point over to a 6" line, cross one for 4", do another foot at a another angle...just zip here there and yon letting the lines go out onto the dark border, where they would look great, just keep them all straight and your points sharp and it will look like it was designed expressly for this multi-colored, crooked angled strip quilt....which it would be.
