That yardage figure is way too high...I seriously think you only need 7 yards of fabric both for the background and another 7 for the contrasting colors. I once figured that 29 or so FQs would be enough as 1FQ will do 8 of most blocks and there are 225 different blocks in the quilt [225/8 = 28.12] - unless you want to use the exact same two fabrics throughout it really wont matter if you are slightly over or under - but this really should be enough.
