Here are the basic directions for the coasters! You can make them square or round. Cut 6 circles that are approx. 5 1/2" across (I used a lid from a plastic container). Cut one circle out of thin batting the same size as the other circles. Fold four of the circles in half with the right side out and press. Layer: One circle, right side down (this one will end up in the inside of the coaster and won't show). Two: put the layer of batting. Three: put the next circle right side up (this one will end up as the bottom of the coaster). Four: Lay two pressed circles on top with the folded edges touching. Five: turn the circle 1/2 turn and lay the last two pressed circles with the folded edges touching. Now..this sounds confusing but flip one of the bottom folded circles from step four up and over 1/2 of the top folded circle and do the same thing on the other half but on the opposite side. Basically you are weaving the four 1/2 circles. Look at the picture above for an idea of what I'm talking about. Now...pin so the layers don't shift. Sew 1/4 to 3/8" around the entire edge of the circle. Cut thread and flip it inside out. Super quick and nice! I made 4 coasters and pieced together the wine holder from approx. 1/3 yd of each color. You might want more fabric so you won't have to piece as much. This would be a great way to use up scraps. I've also made these with squares of fabric instead of circles but when I was sewing I rounded the corners to make turning easier.
