Next time I make one, I think I'll stuff the extra padding between the layers instead of trying to sew through everything.

Very nice..I think the extra padding is important. I was thinking of going to Staples and investing in some of the oversized mouse pads. Thin & cushy and you can trim them to not go into the seam allowances. Think it would work?
