stand up straight, flat footed facing your kitchen counter. Now bend your arms next to your side at the elbow. with your hands out, that is the height of a PROPER cutting surface. Most counter tops are too high for me actually..unless I have shoes on!

NEVER MIND..you want a sewing machine height...that depends a lot on the chair you plan to sit in. Mine is about 28" and it is too high if I use my stability ball chair, and I have to have an adjustable office chair if I choose to go that route. Just like the cutting table, your sewing machine should be at the level of your bent arms, any higher and you will get neck, shoulder and back pain!
