i would clean off the gum with alcohol then use "sewer's aid" on your needle often, it will help a lot.
I was told we could put sewer’s aid on the felt pad on your tension gauge. You can get this at most fabric stores. You can also put it on your 3 or 4 lines of it on your cone of thread to make it sew better. When I went to Houston the quilt frog was there selling notions. I bought a 32oz jar of silicone.
They said you could dip your thread in it for better coverage. This is what you can add to your oil. It dries out fast. And it is flammable. I don’t know how it will ship. I also wonder if it should be in a metal can.
I also ordered a can of silicone spray from Brewers through my dealer to spray thread cones.
The silicone does not discolor thread of fabric.
