Thanks Linda. That actually is a real braided rug, and I had some trouble with it!
My daughter provided a bunch of different yarns that I used to make the braid first. Then I tried sewing it by hand -- first it was too 'round' - so ripped it out. Made it longer, sewed by hand again, but all the edges started to ripple, so ripped it out again. I ended up just starting the centre on a straight line I marked on the quilt section, and machine zigzag stitched the braid around and around it until it reached the bottom edge. Much easier.
