No, we just used Rustic Touch a Melaluca product on the cabinet and washed the metal off with a damp cloth. Lots of dirt came off. The people we bought the cabinet from took good care of it. They had moved to a smaller house and we purchased it out of their garage sale. It had been sitting in the garage for a couple of years. Chloe, my kitty, is from out in our barn.
