I've done NY Beauty and I've done piping but not together. I put piping into the border of a small wallhanging. But I've also done piping on any number of other craft/home dec projects. Takes lots of patience when going around curves. Lots of clipping of your piping seam allowance. And lots of pinning. Even without piping on a NYB for that curved seam. Simply due to bulk you will probably have issues with the block laying flat. All of that said, if it's not something that will get tons of wear/tear - go for it. Your piping will be subject to more wear/tear than the balance of the quilt.
