I always wash a finished quilt....it washes out any starch, chemicals, stitching marks, oils from my hands ....it also may help to show any areas that need attention such as seams coming unsewn, threads to be clipped, etc.
Exactly why I wash...How embarrassed would I be if someone did wash it, and something unraveled, or bled?
Plus, the more washing, the softer and more comfy the quilt becomes....my dd came home with a quilt I made her 10 years ago, it's like butter... so soft and dreamy to touch!
