I have both a FW and a 301 and much prefer the 301. The visibility due to the slant needle surprised me, and I definitely use the quarter inch marking on the needle plate for piecing. The architectural style of the 301 is so pleasing also.

Pieced a whole whack of 2.5" squares on her tonight, and wow! I thought my FW was the best thing since sliced bread...the 301A is even better. I didn't think this was possible, but I love it. It's faster and quieter than my FW (but I still love her anyway!).

As Dayle noted, the 1/4" marking on the plate is fantastic - I don't have a slant 1/4" foot yet, but may not need one given the clear marking. Hummm...something to ponder!
