Beautiful work! and I love the colors. I tend to be a bit different sometimes in my techniques (and I'll admit, a little cheap) so I usually do my "paper" piecing without paper - I use a thin muslin fabric which I trace the pattern onto by laying it on top of the pattern. It gives it more stability and you don't have to pick pieces of paper out of the stitching. It gives it a nice base, just takes a little bit longer. Starching is good to help it keep its shape, too.
