I had the most trouble marking it. even with a long ruler, the fabric wanted to slip while marking it. I tried the red pencil and finally settled on the miracle markers by miraclechalk.com. Because I didn't refer back to the finished quilt picture, I just cut the navy fabric/floral clusters with no regard to how I cut them. As a result, the clusters do not line up evenly with seam and they look wonky. At least to me they do.
I also found the fabric slippery to mark for those large blocks. When I sewed them, I pinned the fabrics about every 1.5" and just sewed really slowly. The scale of them is funny - I have never seen HSTs that big before! But it will all make sense when the quilt top is completed. Are you going to quilt it yourself? I plan on having it LA'd; I've done queen sized SITD at home and it has been a struggle due to the bulk. I don't want to attempt this on such an expensive and labour intensive quilt! Good luck with yours!
