ckcowl has it right... there is no problem with making a copy, label each pc. the numericals are fine and will still serve to tell you which pcs to sew first... if you need that... but after cutting...that's when you add your seams... then sew it up...don't worry about the complication level of the block...all blocks were done this way for a long time before paper piecing... the only time this is a good choice (for me...just me) is when working in minature...otherwise, it is so slow i can't stand to do it... study the pattern...are there pcs that you could pc strips and then cut some smaller pcs together...watch your seams..if you do this there will be no seam allowance between the two pcs.... have fun... i know paper piecing is a viable choice for a lot of people, but you do have the choice for yourself....
