Bev, I just used heavier-feeling cotton...seemed to work really well & feels sturdy. I also used pellon decobond for interfacing, works really well in any & all purses I make, so should hold up well with this. I usually make my purses able to be washed, so should be able to do the same with this if I need to. I just smooth out & air dry & they look like new again. Hoping this will be the same. You could also use home dec fabric for this tote as long as it's not really heavy. I also made a fabric covered insert for the inside bottom (actually cut up an old cutting mat) & I do recommend anyone making anything like this to make one. I almost always make it for my purses & totes too. Just like the stability.
