FYI: My container of Barkeeper's Friend says it is safe on glass cooktop stoves. Has anyone tried it here?
I've used Barkeeper's Friend on a toaster oven before, the outside white coated part (hard plastic and white enamel) to remove nicotine staining. (Worked great!) It did leave some very, very fine scratches in the plastic, but the white enamel on metal was fine. It wasn't anything I couldn't live with in that instance. I'd definitely test the black parts finish in a spot you won't see. If you are removing rust, I would think that the finish is not going to be in good shape under the rust and you may get down to the metal.
