yes and no. first i cut strips of fabric 1 1/2, 2 and 2 1/2" and sewed one of each width together randomely. then cut them into triangles using a 60 degree ruler, but you could easily do it on a rotary mat that is marked. then put the matching triangles together into half hex's. line the half hex's into rows with the other half in the corresponding spaces and sew them together, then sew the rows together. it wasn't that much more difficult then sewing regular squares together, just more lining up and corner matching. luckily most of the fabrics had just enough stretch to them that i could pull tight where needed to match things up.
