I have several suggestions all of which I just used on my enormous pile of magazines and books.
1. Join the RAK (random acts of kindness) list on this board. Here is the url

2. Give them away for the cost of postage (or not if you can afford to) on the Pay It Forward thread here

3. List them on Freecycle
4. Donate to a quilting group in your area.
