Thank you to all of you who replied to my question. I appreciate your observations. Yesterday I removed with a clean, lint free cloth some of the extra grease. It has quieted down. You are right, the faster I go the more it whines.
It reminds me of a plane engine revving up for take-off, though it is not a 'complaining' type of whine.
