I'm used to my older Bernina...I put it in "race" and she takes off! But all in all, the 6600 is a good machine, and doesn't balk at whatever I've thrown at her. Now if I could just make her "go" like the Bernina, I'd be a happy camper. Price was good, about $1500 in October. Take a chance! Good luck!
I also have the janome 6600 and really like it. Have you tried unplugging the foot pedal, and just using the start/stop button? That's what I do, and am very happy with the speeds that way.
