While I was still employed in a state office, one of the staff, a member of the Sioux Indian tribe lost her husband. She told me that each person who attended the services on the reservation in North Dakota was to get a blanket or quilt in his honor, so she was obtaining the needed pieces. She finally took two smallish quilts I had made for some young relatives. I felt honored to be a part of this. Some years later the escort military personnel who assisted in a burial of a soldier were also given quilts, along with those who had attended the services. This was reported in the press. What a wonderful tradition!!!
