Default Look what I got!

My cousin's son (he 10, I think) thinks it's funny that I collect ugly sewing machines. (It's true-I tend to like the big brutes, and the crinkle finish, which not everyone likes.) He and his mom were coming home from hockey practice one evening and he saw a "snot green" sewing machine on a curb with some garbage cans, decided it was ugly, and thought I'd like it. My cousin got it out of the table while he emptied the drawers. Then he packed it up and sent it to me, and paid for it with his savings. (Don't worry, I've already paypaled his mom so he'll get it back.)

It's a 319w! Clever boy, he snagged the manual, a packet of needles and about 30 cams, although he left the bobbins. (He said, "I figured you already had a lot of them, so I left them there." Not bad logic for a 10yo boy, even if it was wrong. Frankly, I'd rather have the cams-I can always order bobbins!)

I've got it cleaned up (it wasn't bad to start) and sewing nicely. The manual has 'recipes' for decorative stitches using various combinations of the stitch levers and cams, so this weekend I'll play with it, see what I can get it to do. The table came from the Habitat ReStore, and will probably be my summer refinishing project. For now, I busted down the finish, smoothed out the rough spots and waxed the heck out of it.

Since I was taking pictures, I took some of the rest of the gang too. From left to right, there's Greenie, Ludwig, and to the right of Ludwig is the table that I use for the serger (you can see the case under Ludwig's right leaf. You can see the case for the Nelco under the left leaf.) or the Featherweight. The Necchi treadle is across the room, since it doesn't have to be near a plug.
