I did not use a pattern for the one I just recently finished. I saw a blue and white one posted here, printed it off, and used it as a gauge for making mine. I cut 5.5 in. squares. I had 13 rows across, by 15 rows down. Then I bordered it in 3 different colors to give me the drop I needed for my queen bed.
