Monica, I never had a 501. I have a 503a, which I love, the Rocketeer! I had a 500a that I gave a friend for Christmas. Now I have the 401a too! I can't say yet which one I love. I have only played with the 401a, but I have used the 503a a ton to do the decorative stitches on my Patchabilities! I will let you know after I play with the 401a more, but I do love both those machines! They both sew beautifully!
