Very true. I just saw a story on NatGeo last week where Japan is having a problem with raccoons. Apparently, there was an anime series in the 70's (?) with a baby raccoon and everyone thought it was cute, so at one point, the Japanese were importing about 1500 raccoons a month as pets.

At the end of the series, the hero releases the raccoon into the woods after it grows up, and so did the real people, big problem since they are not native to Japan and no natural predators. They are ruining 800 year old temples and other wooden structures with their nesting habits. One biologist said it was her unfortunate duty to try to kill 10,000 raccoons a month throughout the country. That's how bad it's gotten.
