Default Quilter from South Carolina

Hello quilting friends!

I have been lurking on the boards for a few months and decided to introduce myself. My name is Meghan and I'm a young-ish quilter in South Carolina. I started quilting at the age of 23. My mother was not domestic or crafty, so I did not learn how to sew growing up. I happened by chance into a quilt shop one day, and immediately I felt like I was "home". I took a beginning quilting class at my local quilt shop and was hooked.

Recently, I discovered that my great grandmother, who I had been very close with as a child, had been an avid quilter before I was born. Although she is no longer alive, I feel a special bond with her by quilting. I am very drawn to quilts from the '30s and '40s (and all things vintage). It's too bad we couldn't spend time together quilting. She was a very special woman to me. My mother has a few of her quilts, and I am totally in awe of her workmanship. She is definitely the standard against which I judge my own quilts.

I switched careers two years ago and had absolutely no time to quilt whatsoever. Now, I have gone back to my old line of work and cannot wait to start quilting again. I have started by finishing some UFOs from years ago while I plot and plan my next quilt. I am looking forward to checking out all the great tutorials on this site and getting some advice from more experienced quilters.

I am not currently a member of any guilds in SC, but would love to meet some fellow quilters in my area.

Happy Quilting!
Meghan
