On most auto threaders, the secret is to have the needle in exactly the right position when you thread. On my Bernina that is accomplished by hitting the foot control with your heel, or I think you can also use a needle up/down button on the machine. I would guess that there's a similar procedure on the Janome to get the needle to that perfect position.
