I use rulers from OffTheEdgeQuilting.com. They are indented to accommodate my longarm foot. There are little tabs at each end that you align with the seam line then the indention is just the right size for following the seam with your machine. I got much better when I got these rulers. I have the 9" size and the Itty Bitty. It does require practice, but you get better the more you do. Also, I have found going down is much easier than going across. I can't go up at all as I can't see where I'm going. Hope this offers some help.
