I agree this is ugly. For me its the colors that make it that way, the pattern itself would not be bad in better colors. I like the idea of cutting it into narrow strips with some prettier fabric. A scrappy strip quilt would totally hide that fabric and is the way I would go. Looking forward to seeing what you decide!
