Default Grand Daughter's Tote

Had the grand kids this weekend, I could tell the grand daughter was getting bored so I asked her if she'd like to quilt. She said yes so we went in & I drug out her stash of fabric & let her start going thru it. I asked her if she wanted to make a quilt or what would you like to make & she said she'd like to do a tote bag. So we got on line, looked up tutorials on totes & she found one she liked. Then once we were in there measuring & getting ready to cut she said "Let's make it bigger" (OH NO that's you're G'ma's trait coming out in you!) So we measured 9.5" & that was the one that was too small, went to 12.5 then finally wound up with a 20" square to do this tote with. Then she said "how about we put a pocket on it too Grandma?" & I said that would be no problem & she showed me how she wanted the pocket. I try to leave it all up to her & just give her a little guidance along the way. For 10 yrs old I am really proud of her as she follows instructions very well. I've gotten secure enough with her while she is sewing, I can now go in the sewing room & get the next pcs ready to go. Her machine does not sew fast but she can still get her finger under the needle if she does it wrong but she has heard it from me till I'm blue in the face about the needle & how it hurts! So she's very careful..... This is her 3rd item she has sewn. Her first was a pillow case, the 2nd was her doll quilt & now a tote bag. I got a text message this morning informing me that she used her tote bag for school today so with this I am happy!
