Default Need a little help to figure yardage

I am trying to figure out how much material I need to make a quilt using this method. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5Ixv...ture=endscreen it was called an amazing Jelly Roll quilt by 3 duds.
I want to make a twin size I believe and my plan is to use 1 or maybe 2 colors that go together for one of the squares and then the others scarppy. What I am looking for is how much material I need for the control colors. I don't really care what size the squares are but was thinking between 10 and 12.

Now a little "history" of why I want to do this. My mother recently passed away. She was a quilter and I hate to admit I did not get "bit" until maybe 5 or 6 years ago. I am really still a beginner. She and my dad (before he passed) loved to go to the local Senior Center for Card playing and Lunch Monday and Wed. (Only days it is open) They supported it 110%. I asked memorials be give to the Senior Center and I received quite a few. Over $500.00. The center I know would like the money as they are really struggling and I believe they will not be able to survive much longer if we don't get some new life. I love to play cards but I also realize not everyone does so I am hoping to maybe offer some classes before the meal in hopes folks will come and stay for the meal. I am even thinking I will offer an incentive if a new person comes for so many meals the next one is free. Meals are only $4.50 for non members. My plan is to make up kits of the "focus fabric" and then let folks chose the Scrappy squares or use there own. I will let them purchase the "kit" for a very nominal fee Like $15-$20. I will be able to do this because my mother has a huge stash!! I mean there is at least a thousand yards I am sure. If I live to be 110 I can never sew it all and I know it and I will also use some of the memorial money to see if I can get more interest. I am also looking for another craft or class that might interest folks. Thinking a book club maybe.

Sorry this got so long. This is all in the planning stages and I welcome comments and suggestions. A big concern I have is IF it will look OK with one or 2 focus fabrics and then how many yards I need??
I do hope I have made myself clear. I have tried and tried to figure it out and I am not good with math and everytime I do it I come up with a different number.
If you think I am crazy it is OK to say so. I do realize it is a big project but I think I can do it. Between mine and moms I could have 5 or 6 machines and I hope some would have their own.
