ITA that I don't think you can go wrong with a Janome. With any machine/brand, IMHO the key is to be sure you have a good dealer behind it with in-store service. Also, that they are very knowledgable about the machines, provide lessons to help familiarize you with the machine, and on-going support as you have questions or need to learn a new trick!Janome's site shows the specs for all the machines. Have her compare the differences from one to the other, and see what is important to her. I always believe in buying one or two levels higher than you want ... if you like the machine, you'll use it a lot and then be wanting a better model, so ensure that first upgrade is built into the purchase!
Then with that knowledge get her to go to the store and give them a test drive ... and compare IRL, asking lots of questions!!! (BTW I now have my fourth Janome! and I kept my 3rd as my take to class machine when I bought my 6600)
